Arizona's Governor vetoed the twin bill passed in 2008.  We are trying again in 2009 to get the bill passed and set into law.  Representative David Schapira (mailto:dschapira@azleg.gov) is sponsoring the bill.  Our *new* bill number is HB2219 (http://www.azleg.gov/DocumentsForBill.asp?Bill_Number=HB2291).  Please click on the link to view it's progress.

Currently the bill is still waiting to be voted on by the House Education Committee.  Once passed it will continue on to the Rules Committee before being heard in the House for a vote.  We will update as progress is made.

PLEASE WRITE TO THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE MEMBERS!!!  Here is a link to that page to find out their names and email addresses.  http://www.azleg.gov/CommitteeInfo.asp?Committee_ID=20

The committee is comprised of mostly new members of the House and members who voted NO on the bill last year!

For more information, you may contact:

The bill number for the 2009 Legislative Session is HB2291 sponsored by Rep David Schapira.

The new House Education Committee members are listed on the webpage: http://www.azleg.gov/CommitteeInfo.asp?Committee_ID=20

I encourage each of you to send the new committee members an email or letter.  Most of the new members, except Rep Schapira of course, are new members to the House or are members who voted NO last year.  We need to reach them!!!

I will not know who the new Education Advisor to the Govenor will be until Jan Brewer is sworn in.  Once I have that information, I will make contact with him or her and let you know how to send a letter or email.

Please let me know if any of you have questions.  I don't have a lot to go on yet as we are just getting "re-started".

Thank you,

Heather Lombardo

Registered to speak with the legislature (registered at the kiosks) can use their log-in & formally state your position on HB2039.  I just did this from my home computer.  Even though it refers to speaking on behalf, it allows you to do so in writing.  You check a box to state your position & can even leave optional comments.  The link (again, if it works) is: http://alistrack.azleg.gov/rts/Login.asp
